Quality Control Supervisor
Location: Fontana, CA
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Salary: $70,000 annually, negotiable based on experience
Reports To: Plant Manager
Direct Reports: 2 Quality Control Technicians
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Control Supervisor to lead and manage the Quality Control Laboratory within a coatings manufacturing environment. This newly created position is designed to support the Plant Manager by overseeing daily laboratory operations, supervising quality personnel, ensuring product quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong coatings and color-matching expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of quality systems and ISO standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor all aspects of the Quality Control Laboratory.
- Supervise and mentor Quality Control Technicians, ensuring compliance with established procedures, testing methods, and quality standards.
- Review and interpret batch ticket instructions, substrate specifications, and ASTM testing methods.
- Conduct and oversee product testing, inspections, and quality evaluations to ensure compliance with customer and company requirements.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and organized records of all testing, inspections, and laboratory activities.
- Investigate customer complaints and Corrective Action Requests (CARs), performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain retain samples and associated logs in accordance with quality procedures.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning effectively.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
- Collaborate effectively with the Plant Manager, Sales Team, Customer Service, and Field Technical Representatives to resolve quality-related issues and improve product performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practices in quality assurance and quality control.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, environmental regulations, and quality management systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of quality control experience within the coatings, paint, or related manufacturing industry.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of coating formulation, testing methods, and quality control procedures.
- Experience investigating and resolving quality issues, customer complaints, and corrective actions.
- Solid mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with BatchMaster software preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong color-matching and color measurement experience.
- Working knowledge of color instrumentation and software, including:
- BYK Instruments
- HunterLab Systems
- Datacolor Instruments and Software
- Experience with paint and coatings testing equipment, including:
- Zahn Cups
- Gloss Meters
- Tooke Gauges
- Density Cups
- Related laboratory testing equipment
- Knowledge of ASTM testing methods and standards.
